The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) Statement about United Airlines Shuttle Bus Incident
While traveling with his wife and three children, Pervez Taufiq, an Indian American photographer, was verbally attacked by a woman spouting racial slurs on a United Airlines shuttle bus. The woman also repeatedly told Taufig his family was not American. The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) condemns in the strongest terms the racist and xenophobic outburst directed at this family.
Just one fellow passenger on the shuttle bus spoke up in the family's defense to condemn the woman's behavior. We applaud their actions, which underscore the importance of bystanders offering support when they witness anti-Asian hate. TAAF partner Right to Be supports bystander trainings that give people the tools they need to safely take appropriate action in volatile situations. No one-especially children-should have to endure hate, harassment, or violence.
